Fousseni Koné

Age: 20
Birthday: (19 May) 1991
Nationality: Mali (Bobo)
Resident: May 2006-Jan 2009
School: 7th grade
Sponsor: Charlotte G.

Fousseni has put on weight since joining us, and is slowly starting to accept that somebody really cares about him.

Fousseni hasn't known anything but beatings all his life - by his father, by his Muslim teacher, and by his boss. When his father not only beat him up but also stopped giving him any more food, he ran away. He spent about one year on the street, before he first came to our weekly program. The Lord highlighted him to me to take him in.

He has since reconciled with his father and moved back in with him for 6 months. The pressure to participate in Muslim rituals became too great, and so Fousseni having proven his strong faith, he moved back in with us July 2009.

Abdias Diakité

Age: 18
Birthday: (26 April) 1993
Nationality: Mali (Bambara)
Resident: May 2006-Dec 2010
School: 7th grade (evening)
Sponsor: Sisi M.

Abdias has the most radiant smile, and now we're seeing more and more of it. Abdias is also the one who requires his daily dose of love, being held and feeling safe. He loves worshiping God, and has a loud voice to make His praises known. It's not always been that way. When Abdias first came, he had demon friends he had grown up with, and in Jesus' name we set him free.

Abdias was beaten up in school by other students a lot, until one time he ended up in hospital, and quit school. The event had left him traumatized. In the meantime his mother had been divorced, and there was nothing to do in his father's house. One day he spent 8 cents that he should have used for a purchase for the family, and so he ran away in fear and lived on the streets, until we invited him to our weekly program. Abdias was injured, so we took care of his wounds and let him spend the night. He never left after that.

In December 2010 he decided he wanted to live according to his own rules and left the house. He still sleeps on our base and goes to evening school to continue his education.
